Jason S. Burgess, MD

Dr. Burgess graduated from Myers Park High School and the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, earning a varsity basketball scholarship his senior year. He received both his Bachelor's Degree in Biology and Medical Degree from Chapel Hill. He completed his Internship and Residency at New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington, NC . Finally, he completed a Vascular Surgery Fellowship at Rush-Presbyterian St. Luke's Medical Center in Chicago, IL.

Dr Burgess is board certified in General Surgery and in Vascular Surgery. His Vascular fellowship has gained him special expertise in both Open and Endovascular Surgery (minimally invasive vascular surgery) which can help treat all arterial and venous diseases, including varicose veins and venous reflux. He also is a Registered Vascular Technologist, specializing in the noninvasive diagnostic work up of patients with Ultrasound technology.

Dr Burgess serves as the Medical Director of the ICAVL Accredited Dilworth Vascular Laboratory. Along with Dr Zbinden and Dr Vaughn, Dr Burgess also staffs the VEIN CARE CENTER AT DILWORTH SURGICAL SPECIALISTS, which specializes in the minimally invasive treatment of venous disease.

 

Dr. DobsonMichael W. Dobson, D.O.

Dr. Michael W. Dobson joined Dilworth Surgical Specialists July 2007. Dr. Dobson received his General Surgery training at New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington, North Carolina. He then went on to complete a Colon and Rectal Surgery fellowship at The Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio. Dr. Dobson is an associate of both the American College of Surgeons, and the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons. He is currently board eligible in General Surgery, as well as Colon and Rectal Surgery.

Dr. Dobson specializes in advanced laparoscopic surgery for benign and malignant colorectal disease. He has a special interest in the surgical treatment of colorectal cancer, as well as inflammatory bowel disease. Dr. Dobson also provides surgical care for a wide variety of General surgery conditions such as hernias, and gallbladder disease. In addition to minimally invasive surgery, Dr. Dobson also performs colonoscopies, and the latest techniques in the treatment of anorectal disease.

 

 Robert D. Vaughn, Jr, MD

Dr. Vaughn is the co-founder of Dilworth Surgical Specialists. He received his undergraduate degree from Morehouse College in Atlanta. He obtained his medical degree from Meharry Medical College in Nashville. He completed his internship and residency training in general surgery at Georgetown University Hospital in Washington D.C.

Dr. Vaughn is a Diplomat of the American Board of Surgery, Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and Clinical Assistant Professor of Surgery, University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. His interests are in vascular surgery and all aspects of general surgery.
Dr. Vaughn is Board Certified in General Surgery.
 James A. Watkins, MD

Dr. Watkins, one of the two founding members of Dilworth Surgical Specialists, has been in practice for over 20 years. He received his undergraduate degree from Southern Illinois University and the University of Alabama. He went on to Meharry Medical College, where he received his M.D. His general surgical internship and residency were spent at Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, D.C.

He is Board Certified in General Surgery and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He has interests and expertise in vascular and all aspects of general surgery.
 Heidi Weilbach, M.D.

Dr. Weilbach received her Bachelor's degree, and graduated Cum Laude at Williams College, in Williamstown Massachusetts. She then pursued her Medical Education at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, MO, where she received her Medical Degree and the Medical Fund Society Prize in Surgery. Afterward, she completed her Internship and Residency at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, NC, specializing in General Surgery.

Dr. Weilbach is skilled in all areas of General, Laparoscopic, and Trauma Surgery, with special interests in Breast and Endocrine Disorders. She is Board Certified in General Surgery.

 

Louis H. Zbinden III, MD

Dr. Zbinden is the President of Dilworth Surgical Specialists. He received his undergraduate education at Davidson College and his medical degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas. He returned to North Carolina and completed his general surgery internship and residency here in Charlotte at Carolinas Medical Center.

Dr. Zbinden is Board Certified in General Surgery and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He is on the teaching faculty at Carolinas Medical Center. He has interests in laparoscopic and endocrine surgery and has experience in all modes of treatment of varicose veins and venous stasis disease.
